Dish the Fit – My Favourite Fitness Accomplishments

Happy Tuesday!

I am once again linking up with the ever inspiring Jessica from The Fit Switch and Jill Conyers for the weekly #DISHTHEFIT Link up.

This Week’s Topic – What are you favourite fitness accomplishments.

I have spent a great deal of time thinking about this topic. Sure I could talk about running my very first Half Marathon or completely my first Sprint Triathlon as they are definitely very special accomplishments in my fitness life.

But rather I chose to think back to all the little moments that left me feeling like a rock star!!!

Here is a quick list:

  • My first ever Run. Oh I had terrible blisters (I quickly learned the importance of running socks)
  • My first solo double digit run. I still remember that day running out across the Chukuni River bridge. I feel awesome !
  • 12 miles
  • When I finally sucked it up and went to a fire hall workout and played with the Rower, barbells and big weight. I later pushed myself to dead lift 135 pounds and do thrusters to 65 pounds.
  • The time when I became strong enough to do chin ups outside in my yard on the play structure.
  • When I was finally capable of linking together 15 pushups on my toes without rest!
  • My first sub 30 minute 5K
  • When I hit a sub 8 minute mile on the treadmill! YUP ROCK STAR!!!
  • When I stopped being afraid of riding a bike and learned to embrace the rush of flying downhills.

  • The first time I held Crow also holds a special moment in my heart.

  • Hiking in the mountains alone this summer – AMAZING!!

See its not just the BIG moments that are special but the little ones, that we often overlook that truly hold my heart!

  1. I am still working on a sub 30 5K and I am so close! Headed to Arizona for my first 15K- instant PR 🙂 and yes after my first run too I became a big believer in good socks!

  2. This is great! Jealous you have done a Tri! I would love to, but honestly the swimming intimidates me! Maybe one day! Would take a lot of training I’m sure!

    And I think crow pose is an accomplishment for so many! Even as a Yoga Instructor it took me so long to master it!

    1. Have you considered swimming lessons? I took them in 2009 and they changed my life! Crow in insanely hard and its far from pretty but doable. i wish i had better overall flexibility.


  3. Awesome that you’ve done a triathlon! I have recently really gotten into swimming again and would love to one day try it myself! So many wonderful accomplishments! 🙂

    1. Thanks for your kind words. My tri changed my life. I was afraid for years worried that I was less than all the other competitors I feel so much more confident now!


    1. Thanks 🙂 I am sure I will be a big chicken again when spring comes, but I still remember how wonderful it feels to go fast on a bike.


    1. Unfortunately if you stop doing pushups and chin ups you lose those gains so easily. I am constantly struggling with my upper body strength. That is why I love the accomplishment so much!
